General Description: |
The trail starts from Molyvo, follows a trail through plains to the south -southeast of the small housing of Vafeio. Then, it ascends and descends and reaches Stipsi that is a dynamic agro-pastoral settlement of Lesvos, where it crosses it . Thence it runs west- northwest and descends until the officially declared traditional settlement of Petra, after passing Petri. Then, it enters the rock of Panagia Petra and then reaches and crosses the Petra Beach. After, it heads north following the coast road to Molyvos or chooses to enter Reservoir, which also ends to Molyvo.

This trail is low to moderate difficulty because, while it is quite uphill to a small portion of Vafio – Stipsi, it is primarily on asphalt and gravel roads with relatively good accessibility . It is suitable throughout the year, except for the extremely rainy days. The trail is 24.34 Km and passes through olive groves , scrub , sparse oak forest , pastures , low arboreal vegetation and riparian vegetation and locations with rocky formations. It passes through five settlements Vafio , Stypsi , Petri (a small detour) , Petra, Mythimna that have traditional character and worth visiting after a stop, in churches , cultural museums and squares - market where there are cafes with local delicacies .
The trail travels through areas with cultural and natural environment of Western parts of Lepetymnos Mountain and traditional rural villages with significant architectural and building stock ( Molyvos , Vafeios , Stypsi , Petri, Petra) .
Considerable importance on the gravel road between Vafeio - Stypsi , is the site of historical importance ' Monastirellia .' The area was known for its water disposal, its vineyards, the famous wine and vegetable gardens . In the same area there is the chapel of Agios Dimitrios and post-Byzantine church ruins , while a few meters south it is probable the existence of a small monastery.
In the same way we find the open sanctuary of Panagia and ends at Stipsi, the traditional rural settlement in which large cars do not enter and is ideal for walking in the market on foot or by bike. It has very interesting alleys, market with cafes , a church from the 17th-18th century , local products etc.
In the variant of the journey from Petri to the south side of Ligona Valley of the few we can find in row the ruins of 17 watermills from the 19 th century, the last phase of the history of water power. The windmills are part of the medieval and modern history of the region where the residents of Molyvos , Vafeio , Stypsi , Petri and Petra grinded wheat, an integral part of the local economic and social history .

Mostly asphalt road, the section from Vafeios to Stipsi gravel, there is a road with good to moderate accessibility. The variant from Petri to the south side of the Ligona valley becomes from a gravel road with good accessibility and small difficulty. The variant from Petra to Reservoir, in a small section 700-800 meters, becomes a gravel road very rough and it is proposed to walk dragging the bike to the side because the slopes are more than 35% -40% and slide dangerously. |
